We’re looking for people who are experienced, sharp, and unapologetically themselves. Capable humans who want to do great work and still feel like themselves while doing it. Check out the open role(s) below and follow the instructions to apply.

"Traditional" law sucks. We don't.

Experienced Litigation Associate

AB Legal is looking for an experienced litigation attorney to join our team. We’re a young firm; we’re still small on purpose and prioritize doing things with intention.  We work in business law, estate planning, and litigation, and aim to do it in a way that’s practical, modern, and unapologetically human. This is not an entry-level training ground (yet). If you need constant supervision, long training wheels, or thrive on rigid hierarchy, this probably isn’t your ideal role (and that’s okay). But if you’re an experienced, self-starting lawyer who’s tired of the “traditional” bullshit and ready to do meaningful, strategic work with real people, we’ve got space for you.

PLEASE READ ENTIRE AD PRIOR TO SUBMITTING YOUR RESUME. INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY ARE AT THE END OF THE JOB POSTING.

 The Job

We need an attorney who can contribute to developing the strategy of a case and who knows where to find the statutes, cases, and rules of procedure to back up that case strategy. You also need to know how to find your way around the courtroom and how to project confidence and competence when dealing with clients and people on behalf of our clients.

You must have experience handling business disputes (think partnership fallouts, member exits, or “business divorces”) and general civil litigation. We’re looking for someone who’s comfortable navigating conflict, strategy, and court deadlines without panic. You will be expected to take responsibility for a client's case alongside the rest of the team; conduct client meetings and recommend strategies; oversee communication with all parties; ensure accurate and timely filings; attend hearings; and delegate work to paralegals and legal assistants and monitor their work.

This is not a learn-on-the-job kind of role. If you’ve never stood up in court, argued a motion, or had a judge ask you questions with 30 seconds to respond, you’re not ready for this gig. And that’s okay! But we’re being honest up front to protect all of us. We need someone who’s been in the trenches, knows how to hold their own in a courtroom, and can step in without a warm-up round. If you’re still getting your feet under you, this isn’t the right fit (but we’re rooting for you to get there!)

 The Attitude

  • If you see a case file as an opportunity to add real value to someone’s legal experience, not just push paper or play lawyer, we think you will like it here.

  • Skills and experience matter, but so do character, curiosity, and your ability to show up as a decent human.

  • If you need rigid hierarchy or a closed-door culture,  you won’t love it here.

  • High-maintenance, humorless, self-important people don’t thrive here (and we’re not in the business of pretending otherwise).

  • You don’t just follow policies; you value them for the structure and sanity they bring to the workplace and the client experience.

  • If scanning your own documents or making your coffee feels “beneath you,” we’re probably not for you.

Where You Work

This position is hybrid, but we don’t have a fancy corner office or mahogany conference table. Our in-person time is about collaboration, problem-solving, and connecting. We meet in our El Dorado, Kansas office space or wherever makes sense that day. When we’re not together, you’re free to work from wherever you’re most productive. We care about results, not where your laptop is plugged in.

 Salary

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package that reflects your experience. We expect to pay you what your background and skills are worth. This isn’t an entry-level role, and we’re not going to treat it (or you) like one. We’re continually evolving how we support our growing team (professionally, personally, and practically) because people do better work when they’re treated like... well, people.

 How to Apply

If this opportunity appeals to you, we look forward to reviewing your resume. Please follow these instructions. APPLICATIONS THAT DO NOT FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.  In your cover letter, please tell us what you believe are the three most important qualities or values for an attorney working with real people and real businesses, especially when the legal process can feel overwhelming, high-stakes, or personal for our clients. We’re less interested in buzzwords and more interested in how you think and what matters to you when you’re in the trenches with a client. Please close your letter with the following sentence: “I have read the instructions contained in the job posting and have followed the instructions.”

Do not send your resume through the online application system. Email your cover letter and resume in PDF format to team@ablegalks.com. Your subject line should be: [YOUR LAST NAME IN ALL CAPS] – Associate Application. Bonus points if your email includes your preferred court walk-in song. We’re paying attention.

Estate Planning/ Probate Paralegal

AB Legal is also looking for an experienced paralegal to join our team. We’re a young firm; we’re still small on purpose and prioritize doing things with intention.  We work in business law, estate planning, and litigation, and aim to do it in a way that’s practical, modern, and unapologetically human. We’re not traditional. We don’t want to be. We run on clear communication, solid systems, and shared ownership of the work. We believe people do their best work when expectations are clear, their contributions matter, and they have room to take initiative.

PLEASE READ ENTIRE AD PRIOR TO SUBMITTING YOUR RESUME. INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY ARE AT THE END OF THE JOB POSTING.

 The Job

We need a paralegal who is organized, resourceful, and ready to support multiple attorneys across a range of matters. Prior estate planning and probate experience is required. This is our core need and where we absolutely must have you hit the ground running. Experience with WealthCounsel is a huge plus and will move your application to the top of the list. We also handle business advising / business disputes and general litigation. Your role will include preparing estate planning documents, managing probate filings and deadlines, and supporting litigation with research, document drafting, and case management.

You should be confident navigating case files, pulling key information from client communications and documents, and taking responsibility for keeping matters organized and moving. You should know how to get your own questions answered, whether that means digging into the file, checking past emails, or reaching out to the right person. If your first instinct is to look for the answer, suggest a better way, or take the lead on a lingering task without being asked, you’ll fit right in. That kind of ownership is what we reward with trust and meaningful bonus opportunities.

To be totally clear, this is not a place to get your wings. We’re specifically looking for someone with real experience in estate planning and probate, not just general paralegal skills. We need you to come in and take charge of this part of the firm, help us tighten systems and honestly, boss us around a little (in the best way).

 The Attitude

  • You take pride in delivering accurate, professional work, even if it’s a Tuesday and no one’s watching.

  • You track your time without being chased.

  • You don’t ghost on open loops.

  • You aren’t offended by the occasional (okay, frequent) use of the f word.

  • You don’t mind talking to other humans (clients, teammates, whoever).

  • You aren’t scared of tech and are willing to learn new systems without throwing your laptop.

  • You take your work seriously, but not yourself too seriously.

Hours & Compensation

This is a full-time position with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday. We offer competitive pay, flexibility, and a team that works hard without pretending to be a family. We’re building benefits that actually support people, not just check a box. We’ll talk salary based on your experience.

 How to Apply

If this sounds like your kind of role, we want to hear from you. PLEASE DO NOT APPLY THROUGH AN ONLINE SYSTEM. FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS:

Send a short email to team@ablegalks.com with your resume (PDF format) attached. Your subject line should be: [YOUR LAST NAME IN ALL CAPS] – Paralegal Application.

In the body of your email, tell us:

  1. The most satisfying legal thing you’ve ever worked on

  2. One system or tool you rely on to stay organized

  3. Your walk-up song if you were entering a courtroom

We’re stoked to meet you, and not just the polished LinkedIn version. We want you, the one who knows their shit, rolls their eyes at outdated legal nonsense, and still finds joy in getting things done.
